ORA ET LABORA

“Pray & Work”, that is the meaning of the mantra in our school motto. THE SCHOOL, our school, Methodist English School (MES) Telok Datok, has produced many luminaries who are the product of the dedication and vison of our founding fathers who had the foresight to establish this school for which we are proud to be associated with.

Despite the many setbacks and challenges the staff and management of MES had to endure over the years, MES still managed to produce many bright and successful people in various fields that stretches from the fields of academia to sports.

MES has produced many Professors, Engineers, Lawyers, Doctors, Specialists, Business Icons, Politicians and Sporting personalities.

The latest of this that requires a worthy mention is our very own Winifred Duraisingam (Class of 2010). She was recently selected to take part in the Women’s Cricket 2022 Fairbreak Tournament held in Dubai early this month. Fairbreak is an International T20 cricket tournament, a first of its kind in the world. The aim of this tournament was to bring together players of repute from all over the world to play together and compete against each other. The Dubai Fairbreak saw the biggest names in global cricket world from 36 countries playing in this ICC sanctioned tournament that was held from 1 May to 15 May 2022.

Malaysian Cricket shared in the joy of Winifred Duraisingam, (Captain of the Malaysian Women’s team) for having been invited to participate in this auspicious tournament. However, it didn’t just end there. Winifred was named “Player of the Match” in her Team’s win over a rival team during the tournament. Wini’s team the Tornadoes, went on to win the whole tournament.

Wini’, one half of two famous siblings who are part of the Malaysian Cricket fraternity starting with her elder brother Derek Duraisingam (MES class of 2009) who captained the Malaysian Under 19 team from 2009-2012 and played for the Under 23 team from 2010-2018.

Wini herself, started at the age of 14 to play for Malaysia and Captain of the Malaysian team from the age of 17. She is now a sports personality of international stature and we wish her well in her future undertakings.

In conclusion this caption from the ‘All Over Cricket’ news, an international online cricket magazine, aptly salutes Winifred’s achievements’.

“Duraisingam has arguably been the standout associate player at the Fairbreak Invitational. At a time when more and more T20 leagues are being announced across the world, perhaps scouts should consider this very loud cheer from the players when she was receiving her Player-of-the-match award.

“Watch for Wini! Watch for Wini !!!”
