Located a short distance away from Banting, is the Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple is the epitome of a Buddhist temple, with a giant Buddha statue overlooking the temple, alongside a Waterdrop Teahouse and Lumbini Garden. It is easy to be enthralled by the mysterious and hauntingly beautiful exterior of the temple, and so easy to be immersed in what the temple has to offer on the inside: the Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery, exhibition halls featuring artefacts and relics, audiovisual rooms, Sutra calligraphy hall, the Dong Zen Institute of Buddhist studies, and even meditation and dining halls. This is a temple worth visiting, as it upholds Buddhism’s education, culture, and religion in Malaysia.
It is no wonder that it was nominated for the “Outstanding Scenery Award” among the other popular Banting attractions from Selangor’s Tourism Development Board in 2003. You can replenish your hunger by exploring all 16 acres of the place with a delicious vegetarian meal from the vegetarian restaurant inside. You can visit as early as 10 am, as it closes by 6 pm. However, if you would like to stay a little later, visit around Chinese New Year, as the temple is known for its extravagant Lantern and Flora festival during the holiday.
